Threat Assessment and Management Training
Employing real world case studies, CPW’s threat assessment and management training focuses on evidence-based practices that have been proven to support cultures of safety in various contexts. Team development, threat assessment and management, investigation, crisis response, addressing biases, expanding situational awareness, crisis communication, compassionate interviewing, proper documentation, and recovery represent key areas of focus.
Threat Management Program Development Consultation
CPW’s threat management program development consultation offers a continuum of services to support your organization’s threat assessment and management infrastructure. Services include assistance with reporting mechanisms, establishment of multidisciplinary teams, development of policies and procedures, communication strategies and stakeholder socialization.
ASSESSMENT
Threat Consultation
Our brief threat consultations provide two threat assessment solutions:
- Immediate threat assessments, which are conducted following the identification of emergent risks. An immediate threat assessment includes a preliminary violence risk assessment using evidenced-based structured professional judgment tools and recommendations for next steps. Findings are reflected in a brief, written report.
- Post-assessment reviews, which entail a review of an internally conducted threat assessment to provide additional insight, perspective, and mitigation strategies. The assessment, which incorporates evidence-based structured professional judgment tools, is also reflected in a brief, written report.
Behavioral Threat Assessment
When the focus of an assessment is driven by potential targeted violence, CPW employs a proactive, systematic approach to evaluating risk and informing mitigation. Emphasis is placed on managing individuals making threats or displaying concerning behaviors, and supporting the physical and psychological safety of potential victims or targets.
Linguistic Threat Analysis
Words have impact, and analysis of the words used by past violent actors is yielding valuable information regarding correlations between word choice and tone, and the propensity to act violently. Utilizing the Dechefr psycholinguistic structured professional judgment tool, as well as evidence-based forensic linguistic analysis, CPW can provide an evaluation of a communicated threat, which can serve as a vital element in a holistic threat assessment.
Violence Risk Assessment
Our holistic evidence-based violence risk assessments include incorporation of data gathered from myriad sources and individuals, the use of multiple structured professional judgment tools, and multidisciplinary consultation. The result is a comprehensive written report that details the assessment process, findings, and recommendations, inclusive of potential effects of fluid dynamic risk factors. Our recommendations also seek to optimize effective, compassionate interventions that address underlying causes and maximize the reduction of environmental stressors for all involved.
Suicide Risk Assessment
Our holistic evidence-based violence risk assessments include incorporation of data gathered from myriad sources and individuals, the use of multiple structured professional judgment tools, and multidisciplinary consultation. The result is a comprehensive written report that details the assessment process, findings, and recommendations, inclusive of potential effects of fluid dynamic risk factors. Our recommendations also seek to optimize effective, compassionate interventions that address underlying causes and maximize the reduction of environmental stressors for all involved.
Fitness for Duty Evaluations
One of the conditions of a safe workplace is the ability of employees to perform their duties without threat of injuring themselves or others. An employee’s fitness is most often compromised by off-the-job events, such as illness or accidents, or by maladaptive behaviors while on-the-job, such as demonstrations of increased hostility, significant declines in performance, excessive absenteeism, or suspected alcohol or substance abuse.
When an employee’s fitness is questioned, CPW’s fitness for duty evaluations (FFDE) can assist in determining the nature and scope of the challenges involved.
Our overarching objective is to identify supportive and effective interventions that will restore the employee’s ability to safely return to work.
If concerns arise regarding an employee’s potential for violence toward themselves or others, the FFDE will include a violence screen to identify risk level and further inform decision-making.
Both the FFDE and FFDE with violence screen culminate in comprehensive, written reports that detail the assessment process, findings, and recommended next steps.
INVESTIGATION
Investigation and Open-Source Intelligence
Investigation services ensure that all available information is appropriately synthesized to provide the most accurate snapshot of a given situation. Comprehensive, compassionate investigations involve traditional information gathering and review, including through the interview of appropriate subjects.
These services also employ open-source intelligence which can offer valuable insights into the thoughts and behaviors of a subject of concern. Whether the subject has made direct or implied threats, or has exhibited concerning behaviors, open-source intelligence can assist in determining whether they pose a threat of violence or reputational damage.
RECOVERY
Post-Incident Reviews, Psychological Autopsies, Crisis Support
In the event that a traumatic event or crisis does occur, CPW provides compassionate consultation and response to support healing and recovery. Services include:
- Crisis communication strategy and consultation to facilitate transparency, confidence, and reputational integrity.
- Post-incident reviews that allow a detailed retrospective analysis to identify areas of strength, and opportunities for improving responses to future incidents.
- Psychological autopsies to assist in determining psychological and emotional antecedents that potentially contributed to death or crisis.
